SOCIAL MEDIA ETHICS AND THE JAMAAT-E-ISLAMI HIND

ONLINERPOL core team member Max Kramer will analyze the theory and practice of social media ethics of the Indian reform Islamic organization Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in his upcoming talk on January 22. He is going to compare the ethical understanding of the Jamaat with other traditions of ethics that deal with questions of social media on a global scale. By positioning the Jamaat’s media ethics within the context of the field of global digital media ethics, he will argue that some of the field’s contradictions emerge from implicit assumptions about Islam that need to be challenged by a close study of the practices of specific Islamic media agents within a moral economy.
