Arild Engelsen Ruud

Arild Engelsen Ruud is a cooperation partner with For Digital Dignity, Project ONLINERPOL and Professor of South Asia Studies and Head of Research in the Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages at the University of Oslo. He is also Head of Board in the Centre for Development and the Environment at the University of Oslo. He has academic interests in political culture in South Asia (in particular India and Bangladesh), political leadership, and popular perceptions of democracy.

He has numerous publications including co-editing with Geir Heierstad India’s democracies: diversity, co-optation, resistance (2016) and authoring Notions of Rights and State Benefits in Village West Bengal (2014).
